




Irish Moss Seaweed Powder

🪸 Irish moss, or Irish sea moss, is a red algae scientifically named Chondrus crispus. Although it is traditionally harvested in the North Atlantic (notably in Ireland, from which it gets its name), its cultivation has spread to other regions, including China. In China, this seaweed is known as "sheng chái" and has been used in traditional medicine for over 2,000 years for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. In Europe, its use dates back to antiquity, where coastal communities, particularly the Celts, incorporated it into their diet.
The process of making Irish moss powder is very simple. It is a raw powder. There are no other complicated processes. Irish moss is directly dried in a dryer, then ground. This results in Irish moss powder.
- Mix 1 teaspoon (2 to 3 g) of powder with 50 to 70 ml of hot (not boiling) water.
- Whisk or blend until you achieve a smooth texture.
- Let thicken for 5 to 10 minutes.
The obtained gel can beused immediately, or stored for 3 to 4 days in the refrigerator, in an airtight jar.

Powdered Irish moss is an ideal natural thickener for give body to smoothies, create raw or vegan dessert creams, stabilize foams or toppings, Slightly thicken soups and sauces, partially replace gelling agents in raw pastries.> Tip : For a perfectly smooth texture, first add the powder to a little warm water to avoid lumps, or blend it directly with the liquid in your recipe.
